Ty Banks is an American conceptual and portraiture photographer, based in both New York City and California’s Bay Area. Currently studying at Parsons School of Design to earn a BFA in photography, has contributed to the development of her photographic style. With 8 years of foundational experience in photography and studio, Ty’s personal work aims to contextualize her identity: Living as a Black woman in the U.S.. She investigates the relationship between mainstream “popularized” media/culture and the modernization of African American heritage and cultural practices. Her artistic process emphasizes color, lighting, and fashion styling to visually depict emotions, themes and culturally significant conversations and ideas explored throughout her work. In addition to her personal practice, Ty is inspired by  phenomena experienced by the general public when curating commercial images and campaigns. She is intentional in maintaining brand identity while initiating a  refreshing, contemporary approach to visual marketing.
